finance and investments

I continue to read daily on finance, investments, broad based global macro economics, and sector specific stuff. Here is a summary:

-Buy stocks, they only go up
-Sell stocks, they are overvalued and earnings are inflated, accounting is fraudulent
-Japan is going to have all sorts of problems
-The US is going to default
-The US will lead the world out of the economic doldrums
-Buy gold it is a hedge on inflation/deflation/systemic failure
-Don't buy gold, it has no yield or inherent value
-Buy commodities, the world will be starving soon because of taking various production offline
-Don't buy commodities, they are manipulated by the shadow empire
-Diversify to smooth out your risk
-Diversification is for idiots and fools
-Real estate is expecting a new wave of bankruptcy and defaults
-Now is the time to buy a new home!

There you go. You're ready to take on the world of high finance.

I just sent out our Q3 checks to the IRS and NCDOR. Here is a visual display.

travel to IMFlorida

Tomorrow morning we're going to drive to Panama City Beach to watch some of our friends/athletes compete in the Ironman. I'm not looking forward to the drive but the event is always a good time. Going to try and do my long run for the week on Saturday during the bike portion of the event.

I won another 50% of my stake last night in poker. I was down to my last 15 dollars, then called an all-in from one of the more aggressive players. He had a pair of kings, I had slow played a low flush on the flop.

The end of October also is the deadline for submitting 3rd quarter payroll taxes. I'd like to take this opportunity to give the finger to all the idiots in Washington who piss away our hard earned tax dollars.

Isn't poker and politics more interesting than training log updates?

Eagleman and the Taxman

Bri and I are off tomorrow afternoon for Cambridge, Maryland and the Eagleman 70.3. Bri was originally signed up for the race but had to transfer to the Aquabike due to her foot issues, which is a bummer but has happened to all of us. It is going to be a bit hot out there but that goes with the territory. I am strictly on coach patrol. We'll take the beach route and enjoy the more scenic driving conditions that going up the coast of Virginia and Maryland allow. The Chesapeake Bay-Bridge tunnel is pretty neat if you've never seen it.

In other news, we're soon getting our tax rebate or whatever it's called, to the tune of $1,200. We get to turn around and send that back to The Man as part of our June quarterly estimated tax payment. Our economic stimulus package in action.

Next week we're off to Costa Rica for a few days of surf and relaxation. I'll probably have to bring a computer but plan to work as little as possible during that time.
